Stats: De Kock rounds off brilliant ODI career with WC redemption

South Africa's impressive World Cup 2023 campaign came to an end with a three-wicket defeat against Australia in the second semi-final in Kolkata on Thursday, November 16, and with it, ended a glittering ODI career for Quinton de Kock, spanning over a decade.

Here are all the key numbers from across the 155 matches he played in the format.

6767 - Quinton de Kock is one of six players to have aggregated 5,000-plus runs as a designated wicket-keeper in ODIs till date. His tally of 6770 ODI runs is the seventh most for South Africa, after Jacques Kallis (11550), AB de Villiers (9427), Hashim Amla (8113), Herschelle Gibbs (8094), Graeme Smith (6989) and Gary Kirsten (6798).

21 ODI hundreds scored by Quinton de Kock is the joint third-most for South Africa - alongside Herschelle Gibbs - and only behind Hashim Amla (27) and AB de Villiers (25). Only Kumar Sangakkara has scored more as a designated wicketkeeper (23) in the format. 18 of de Kock's 21 ODI hundreds came in a winning cause, the most by a wicketkeeper.

6 players have achieved a treble of 5000-plus runs with a 45-plus average and a 90-plus strike-rate in ODIs till date. The list features Viv Richards, Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Rohit Sharma, David Warner and Quinton de Kock.

41.18 - Quinton de Kock's conversion rate of 41.18% from fifties to hundreds is marginally bettered only by Virat Kohli (41.32%) among the 143 batters who have registered at least 25 fifty-plus scores in the format.

3 - Quinton de Kock is one of the three South Africa batters to have registered three consecutive ODI hundreds, after Herschelle Gibbs (2002) and AB de Villiers (2010). De Kock achieved this record in a three-match bilateral home ODI series against India in December 2013, a feat matched by 11 others in the format, and bettered only by Sangakkara, who got four on the bounce during the 2015 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

De Kock is also one of the four batters to have registered three consecutive ODI hundreds against India, alongside Zaheer Abbas (1982-83), Nasir Jamshed (2012-13) and Steven Smith (2020).

21 innings taken by Quinton de Kock to complete 1,000 ODI runs was a joint record for the fastest to the milestone when he achieved the feat in August 2014, alongside Sir Vivian Richards, Kevin Pietersen and Jonathan Trott. It was later matched by Babar Azam, Rassie van der Dussen and Dawid Malan; and bettered by Fakhar Zaman (18), Imam-ul-Haq (19) and Shubman Gill (19).

6ODI hundreds scored by de Kock before turning 22, the joint most in ODIs alongside Sri Lanka's Upul Tharanga, followed by Afghanistan's Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who have five each. De Kock registered his maiden ODI hundred aged 20 years and 326 days, against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi in November 2013 to become the youngest South Africa batter to achieve the feat. No other South African batter has registered an ODI hundred before turning 22.

6 ODI hundreds scored by Quinton de Kock against India is the joint second most alongside AB de Villiers, Ricky Ponting and Kumar Sangakkara, only behind Sanath Jayasuriya's seven. De Kock registered six ODI tons in India, which is also the joint second most by a visiting batter in the country alongside Chris Gayle, only one behind de Villiers (7). Remarkably, the left-hander converted each of his six 50-plus scores into hundreds in India.

178 runs scored off 113 balls by de Kock against Australia at Centurion's SuperSport Park in 2016 is the second highest individual score for a wicketkeeper in ODIs, after MS Dhoni's unbeaten 183 against Sri Lanka in Jaipur in 2005. It also happens to be the third highest individual score for South Africa in ODIs, and their highest in a run-chase, bettering Herschelle Gibbs' 175 in the landmark 435-run chase in Johannesburg in 2006.

3 150-plus ODI scores for Quinton de Kock is the most for a wicketkeeper in ODIs, one better than Adam Gilchrist and Jos Buttler who have two each. Among South Africa batters, only Hashim Amla has more 150-plus scores in ODIs (4) than de Kock. The opener is also one of the seven batters to have registered two 150-plus scores while chasing in ODIs, alongside Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Sanath Jayasuriya, Shane Watson, Jason Roy and Fakhar Zaman.

4 - There have been four instances of three centuries being registered in an ODI innings, three for South Africa (including one in World Cups) and one for England. De Kock featured in two of them; alongside Faf du Plessis and AB de Villiers against India in Mumbai in 2015 and with Rassie van der Dussen and Aiden Markram against Sri Lanka in their 2023 World Cup opener in Delhi last month.

9 instances of a player achieving a double of 100 runs and four dismissals in an ODI, two for South Africa: de Kock against India in Durban 2013 and de Villiers against Zimbabwe in Potchefstroom 2010. The other players to have achieved this double in ODIs are Shai Hope (twice), Kumar Sangakkara, Alec Stewart, MS Dhoni, Dinesh Chandimal and Mohammad Shahzad.

226 wicketkeeping dismissals by Quinton de Kock is the second most by a South Africa wicketkeeper in ODIs after Mark Boucher's 424 (415 for SA). David Richardson is the only other South Africa wicketkeeper with 100-plus dismissals in ODIs (165).

4198 runs aggregated as an opening pair by Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock in 93 innings together, the most for South Africa in ODIs, well clear of the next best 3007 between Graeme Smith and Herschelle Gibbs. Overall, it's the fifth highest aggregate for an opening pair in the format. Amla and de Kock added 4300 as a pair in ODIs (for any wicket), which is again the highest for South Africa, followed by 3607 between Gibbs and Smith.

11 century stands added by de Kock and Amla is the most by a South Africa opening pair, and the joint second most for them for any wicket, alongside 11 between Smith and Gibbs, one less than 12 between Amla and de Villiers.

Quinton De Kock had a terrible run across the 2015 and 2019 editions of the World Cups, but redeemed himself with 594 runs at 59.4 with four hundreds in 2023.

594 runs scored by de Kock at the 2023 World Cup is the most for a South Africa batter in a single edition, surpassing 485 by Jacques Kallis in 2007. It's also the highest aggregate for a wicketkeeper-batter in a single World Cup, surpassing Kumar Sangakkara's 541 in 2015.

4 hundreds registered by de Kock in 2023 is the second joint most in a World Cup edition alongside Kumar Sangakkara in 2015. Rohit Sharma takes the pole position in this list, with five tons in 2019. De Kock's four hundreds is also the joint highest for South Africa in the competition's history, alongside AB de Villiers, who registered as many across the 2007, 2011 and the 2015 edition. Only Sangakkara has scored more hundreds as a designated wicketkeeper (5) than de Kock in World Cups.

1044 runs aggregated by Quinton de Kock in World Cups is the fourth most for South Africa in the competition's history, after AB de Villiers (1207), Jacques Kallis (1148) and Herchelle Gibbs (1067). It's also the fourth-most for a designated wicketkeeper in World Cups, after Sangakkara (1532), Adam Gilchrist (1085) and Mushfiqur Rahim (1079).

6 wicketkeeping dismissals affected by de Kock against Afghanistan in Ahmedabad in South Africa's last round-robin game is a joint record in World Cups, alongside Adam Gilchrist and Sarfaraz Ahmed, who managed as many against Namibia in Potchefstroom in 2003 and against South Africa in Auckland in 2015 respectively.

There have been 16 instances of a wicketkeeper completing six dismissals in an ODI innings till date, only two wicket-keepers have done that more than once: Gilchrist (6 times) and de Kock (twice). De Kock's previous instance of six dismissals in an ODI innings came against New Zealand in Mount Maunganui in 2014. Mark Boucher is the only other South African with as many in an ODI innings, having done that against Pakistan in Cape Town in 2007.

20 wicketkeeping dismissals affected by de Kock (19 catches and a stumping) at the 2023 World Cup is the joint second most in a single edition alongside Alex Carey, who managed as many in the 2019 edition in England. The overall record is 21, jointly held by Adam Gilchrist (2003) and Tom Latham (2019). Overall, de Kock managed 39 dismissals across World Cups, which is bettered only by Sangakkara (54), Gilchrist (52) and Dhoni (42).

He also became the only wicketkeeper to achieve a double of 500-plus runs and 20 dismissals in a single World Cup edition.
