PLAYER OF THE MATCH
Keshore: I wonder why Starc has been extremely off color in recent times. During India's tour Shane Warne on air actually noticed a subtle change in his grip, how his thumb is more towards the side of the ball and not underneath the seam. Might be a reason why he's losing his control quite often.
Raghav: Good to see Pat Cummins taking a handful of wickets. He bowled his heart out against India, best among Australian bowlers though didn't get that many wickets. Will be really nice if he gets some time to bat also in coming matches.
Shankar: Do you think that the Aussie pacers have bowled better than they did against India, or have the Sri Lankan batsmen been poor with their shot selection? -- They have bowled better. The length has been fuller and more balls were hitting the stumps unlike in the India series. The inclusion of Richardson has also helped.
PR: Very disappointing to see Chandimal failing. He, himself, is to blame for his drop in form. Sometimes he comes at no.3 and sometimes he comes at no.6. He is a good batsman and probably the best one for SL after Mathews. He should decide on a position between no.4 or 5 and stick to it no matter what.
Kuldeep Pathak: Starc off late has become quite an inconsistent and an ineffective bowler in the initial stages of the innings. Not getting his line and length correct. Saw that against India and seeing it here again in both the innings. He needs to work on this else the pace he generates would be useless.
SKR: "Head too misses out on a hundred. Australian summer without an Aussie scoring a 100? Or perhaps Cummins may?"
Shubharup Mukherjee: Excellent batting from Head and Labuschagne. It is partnerships such as these that can bring back the much needed confidence to this depleted Australian batting lineup. A morale boosting partnership indeed
Adarsh: Remember how Steve Smith started his career. Hope you get what I want to say here!! -- Labuschagne to be the next Smith?
Huzefa: Head is making sure that he'll be difficult to push out of the side once the banned duo of Warner and Smith make a comeback.
Shikhar Bhargava: Marnus Labuschagne could be a promising player for Aussies if handled properly
Ashiq Sibi: "If Marnus Labuschagne can somehow stop bowling pies and can work on his spin bowling, he can be the next big thing for Australia."
skr: Head seems to have put his head down and determined to make it count.. Marnus giving good support. Ominous for SL
Vignesh: "One thing to have happened out of this ball tampering fiasco is it has exposed the technique of other batsmen. If Smith had been playing he would have played anchor role and others would have chipped in around him. Australia is never known to rely on a single player."
Khilji: "Does it really make sense taking a review against a night watchman and losing it, early in the day!!"
Sarath: "Sri Lanka should not get carried away with the wickets of Australian top order... Their best batsman 'Pat Cummins' plays at 8..."
PR: Very disappointed that a player like Renshaw isn't getting chances. He played with such composure and patience. Seemed like a good player of spin with a tight defense. I would like to see more of him in the future.
Saurabh: Good opportunity for Joe Burns to validate his given chance, given recent failures of Aaron finch against India.
Kuldeep Pathak: Sri Lankan bowlers need to chip in with few quick wickets. That is the only the way they can stay in the match, else Australia will run away with the game very soon.
ross: Niroshan is turning out a fine player, he has done well in recent series, may be it is time for him carry his team as Sangakara was carrying few years back. Maybe a promotion in batting order will do better for him.
Sriharsha M: I think van der dussen from RSA and Jyhe Richardson are the dream debuts for this month I have seen.
Aritra: @Ajay Except for Roshen Silva (11 tests), each of the top 7 SL players has played a minimum of 21 Tests before. That's quite a lot of experience in the international arena.
siddhu: What happened to Mathews? He is not in the squad!!! -- Injured.
Danny: What a debut for Jhye.. Carrying the confidence from ODI series..
Pratik Pathare: @ Ajay: It has been three years since Sangakkara and Mahela retired. Since then SL cricket is saying that it is in transition. 3 years is a long time and that transition reason will not be tolerated now. Karunaratne, Chandimal, Thirimanne, K Perera are all experienced enough to take the team forward.
Ashutosh Panigrahi: @Mustafa Moudi - Not a new thing for them. It's their style. They were not changing team frequently in the past because maximum of the players did perform well. But due to the poor cricket, and in the quest of finding new talents, they are chopping much. It's the same thing Indian selectors are doing.
AJ: India was at the same situation in first test as that of SL right now and Pujara stepped up for them, does SL have anyone who can do the same for them?
Mustafa Moudi: If there is somebody who really needs to be dropped immediately from Australia, then it is their selectors.... They keep changing the team after every lose, not allowing any player to settle plus the insecurity of getting sacked for failing in one series never lets them play freely!!
Aslam S: Only question to be answered from Sri Lanka's point of view is that, who's going to be the Pujara for them in this series?
Onkar: ICC award for the emerging player of 2019 : Strong contestant is here, Jhye Richardson!
Ajay: India were at their peak and hence were able to defeat Australia that easily. SL is in transition from a couple of years now. I don't think they have any chance in this series.
Yash N: How come 1st session break is Tea and not Lunch?? -- It's a day-night Test. First tea and then dinner.
Ashiq Sibi: Amazing to see how Lyon puts his body behind the ball. The revs he generates is only gonna get him more purchase from this Gabba wicket.
upam deka (@upamdeka17260): SL batsman are not at all using any feet movement against Lyon early, thus allowing him to settle into a nice rhythm. Result- Turn, bounce & wicket. Ominous signs ahead for Lankans
Karthick S: "Wow.. Jhye.. deserved that wicket every bit. With series of right handers in, he might be in for a long spell"
Krishnanunni: This looks a much balanced Aussie side compared to the recent India series. -- How so?
Pratik Pathare: By all means Australians are favorites to win the series. SL as of today haven't shown any signs of improvement even in front of their home crowd. So they need to be there, grind it out and work hard for a win in Australian soil.
Rajat: Seems like Starc is getting his momentum that we obviously missed against India.
Puneeth: Very good selection of Kurtis Patterson. Got a look alike of Alastair Cook and a very good off side player
Karthick S: Excited to see Jhye bowling with the Pink ball. He got the white ball to dance to his tunes in the ODI series vs India
