Moises Henriques calls time on Australia domestic career

Moises Henriques has announced his retirement from New South Wales cricket and the Sydney Sixers, bringing the curtain down on a 22-year Australian domestic career. The 39-year-old, Australia's most-capped domestic cricketer with 420 appearances across formats for NSW and the Sixers, said he had decided to "call stumps" after not being offered a contract for BBL16.

Henriques, who underwent back surgery in February, led the Sixers to the BBL 15 final and featured in five matches during NSW's victorious One-Day Cup campaign last season. He said he had received interest from other Big Bash clubs but chose not to continue elsewhere.

"I had interest from other BBL teams, but it just didn't feel right to go elsewhere," Henriques said. "After a bit of deliberation, I've decided it's time for me to call stumps on my BBL career and playing commitments with NSW ... and start looking forward to the next chapter of my life.

"I have been very fortunate to call cricket my job for the past 22 years as a professional athlete," added Henriques. "To the people I've been fortunate enough to play with and work alongside, I'd like to thank you. If it weren't for those relationships and the deep care I have for them, I'm sure I would have reached this day much earlier."

A three-time Big Bash champion and the highest-capped player in the BBL men's edition with 154 games, Henriques finishes as the Sixers' highest run-scorer with 3,410 runs. He also represented Australia in all three formats, playing four Tests, 16 ODIs and 24 T20Is between 2009 and 2021.

Henriques will continue as a director of the Cricket NSW Foundation and remains available for overseas leagues. He is also set to represent Portugal, his country of birth, in next month's European qualifier for the 2028 Men's T20 World Cup.
