Ben Duckett, Craig Overton earn first points for Trent Rockets

Ben Duckett's sparkling 75 laid the platform before Craig Overton's late six-hitting cameo helped Trent Rockets pull off the highest successful chase at Trent Bridge in The Hundred, as they beat London Spirit by four wickets with two balls to spare.

Chasing 160, the Rockets were cruising for large parts through Duckett's brilliance before Spirit clawed their way back with four wickets in 18 balls, only for Overton to finish the job in emphatic fashion. The victory handed Rockets their first points of the campaign, while Spirit were left to rue another defeat after failing to capitalise on a promising start with the bat.

David Willey struck early in the second innings to remove Finn Allen for a duck, but Duckett quickly wrested back control with a flurry of boundaries. Alongside Tom Banton (22 off 14), he put on 72 in 41 balls to put the Rockets firmly on course. Duckett brought up his fifty in 30 balls and looked set to bat through the chase as he added another useful stand with Tim David after Banton's departure.

But the complexion of the game changed dramatically after Duckett departed for a 47-ball 75, caught superbly by James Coles off Andrew Tye. Jamie Overton removed David two balls later before Sam Billings briefly revived the chase with a 10-ball 22 that featured two sixes. Adam Milne, however, dismissed both Billings and Lewis Gregory to leave the Rockets needing 25 off the last 10 balls. Craig Overton then turned the game on its head, smashing a six off his first ball before taking six more off brother Jamie and calmly seeing the Rockets home with two balls to spare.

Earlier, after opting to bowl, Trent Rockets kept Spirit to 159 for 9 despite several starts from the visitors' top order. Jonny Bairstow fell cheaply, but Lhuan-dre Pretorius struck a brisk 24 off 14 before James Rew added 26 off 15. Liam Livingstone and Dewald Brevis then appeared to have laid the platform for a much bigger total, sharing a 53-run stand in 33 balls, with Brevis top-scoring with a 24-ball 39 and Livingstone making 33.

At 127 for 4 with 22 balls remaining, Spirit looked well placed to push beyond 170. Instead, the Rockets bowlers produced an excellent finish. Calvin Harrison dismissed both Rew and Livingstone, Mohammad Amir removed the dangerous Brevis, while Lewis Gregory and Mitchell Santner squeezed the scoring in the closing stages. Spirit managed only 32 runs while losing five wickets across the final 22 balls, with Harrison returning 2 for 21 and Gregory conceding only 17 from his 15 balls.
