PLAYER OF THE MATCH
Sudhir: There is some urgency to score runs post lunch because it will give a psychological edge and ease the pressure when deficit is eliminated and India go into lead
Usman: England have ruled this game so far but they have been very poor in the field, 3 dropped catches so far in this innings and some misfields, these lapses might hurt them..
Akaash: Again, just before the end of a session!!!!!
Pranay Chenreddy: I want Gill to score a century here as much as I want hike at my company!
Veer: Imagine how dangerous stokes will be with the new ball
huzaifa: Love watching the commitment of both captains.
Sanjay: "Do the reviews reset at 80 overs? Or is it 3 for an innings?" -- They don't reset. Three for the whole innings and England are now out of reviews.
Plv Rajshekar: All household chores done before start of play. Now, dedicating the whole of Sunday to watch Team India fight
Parry: If india manage to pull this off, it will feel as good as a win
Ashwin Rajani: What a player Ben Stokes is !! Immediately creating impact with the Ball.
Nabajit Rajbongshi: KL Rahul has been rock solid and consistent this series and today is the day team India needs him the most. A calm composed batter with very good technique having a lot of patience is the need of the hour for team India and who better than a player named Rahul to save team India from this situation.
Vipul: Logged in after work expecting disappointment, but wow - India's showing heart and grit. What a fightback!
Vasudev: This is some resilience from the both batters !! Resemble Dravid - VVS !! Would love to see them continue to bat on the final day too..!
Anita: All Tests in this series have gone down to the wire, till the final session. Even this Test is probably going that way..
Megh Chheda: Immaculate resistance and determination shown by KL and Gill, hope they lead this match to a draw tomorrow
Rohan Kuduchka: Back here at Old Trafford for the 2nd continuous day just to witness India bat. No matter the circumstances, we believe!
Sunny: England are sorely missing the golden arm of Ben Stokes.
Biswajit: England missing Ben Stokes, the bowler
Sagar Saha: Some were of the opinion that this match would not even go to day 5. This Indian team knows to fight back!!
SKB: "Any news on Stokes? Not Bowling? He usually wants to dominate and contribute in all possible means" -- No official update yet
Anita: India is putting a fight here. Great spirit Rahul and Gill. India could still push for a draw if they have solid partnerships
Mrinal: England will definitely want Gill on strike, he has looked vulnerable at times. On the other hand, KL looks very much composed.
Raunak: Is India batting on a different surface? Would be a miracle if the game goes to day 5.
Kaushal Dev Singh: Someone commented that India will not cross 100. I think he was right.
Biswajit: Bazball mode: ON
Sanjayprabu: Hopefully India can give chance to kuldeep next match
Faizal VP: @Sharath, I get the frustration — it looks grim, no doubt. But writing India off already? That’s harsh. This team has shown grit before, and they can dig in again. Yes, the situation is tough, but a fightback is still possible. Think of Vihari-Ashwin, Sydney. Think of Gabba. Don’t count them out yet
VINOD BHANAGE: @sharath kumar: Be optimistic and positive sir. We will fight till the end
sharath kumar: Match will be over today, India will lose by innings. My only hope is India will cross 100 at least.
Balagopal S: For the first time in his career Bumrah has gone for over 100 runs. Hurts to be honest
Delower: Bumrah in the nervous 90s! Will Bazball gift him his first unwanted century?
Prasanna: Good job Shubham. Can you now praise Stokes for his skills?
Shubham: Liam Dawson looks like a proper batter. He has more than 10,000 first-class test runs. No doubt he is sound and compact as a batter.
Kaushal Dev Singh: Innings defeat on the cards guys. Bowling has disappointed.
Daloiya: old ball with sundar was better than new ball with seamers today
Satish Prasad: very harsh to say but bumrah is not consistent enough in this match, many balls have been down the leg, bumrah not getting it right also demoralises team.
Vasudev: Washi you beauty..! Your drift in the air is gorgeous to watch !!
Plv Rajshekar: India need not just a stroke of luck, but something extraordinary, a run-out from nowhere, a blinder in the slips, or a spell for the ages.
Sanket: "What speed is AK bowling?" -- An average of around 130kph
Navdeep: @Ashvarya The way English batters are going on, 2nd innings might be irrelevant for India.
Ashvarya: This uneven bounce should encourage India to feel that they are still in the contest considering England would be batting last on this pitch.
Sam: Jadeja had caused so many problems to Pope yesterday but surprised to see him not being introduced into the attack yet.
Nikhil: "Is there uneven bounce?" -- Yes the ball is staying low from time to time at one end. Sometimes there's extra bounce too.
Zain: Indian seamers have bowled really well today, had they did the same yesterday, the wickets column would have looked much better.
Sambhav: Much better lines from Indian bowlers this morning. But try some bouncers.
Shabbir Hamdulay: Siraj and his love affair with reviews continues
Navdeep: "How has the pitch flattened out after showing so much movement yesterday first session." -- England did find more help with second new ball yesterday, but let's face it, India were poor with the new ball. They often strayed on the pads and down leg.
Shabbir Hamdulay: Let's bring on the " Drifter"
AK: India should stop the flow of runs at least. Conceding a boundary in every over by spraying it too full or on pads is not going to help. Stopping the flow of runs may frustrate the batters a bit.
MOHIT ROCHLANI: This is truly a test of India's bowling depth. If Bumrah isn't firing, the attack looks flat and lacks bite
VK: Missing Nitish's golden arm here - he might've taken Zak's wicket again
Dinakar: Indians bowling looking too easy, inconsistent lengths and lines. Not to be too over critical, but looks almost as if they are going through the motions today. Pitch looks different from what India batted on as well.
Tejas: Dawson troubled a well set Jaiswal right from ball 1. No harm in asking Jadeja and Sundar to have a roll I feel
Samarth Gangwar: England was getting a 30 over old ball to move while India is getting significantly less movement even with the new ball.
Vikas Jain: @cb Bazball is back
AbhiRam: i am missing prasidh krishna here toooooo much
Abhijith Guduru: At this rate they will be at parity by 1st hour tomorrow. India need not only break this partnership but they need a few more by the close of play to make a match out of this.
Rahul: "Looks like a completely different surface from when India was batting or is it the fact that Indian bowlers have been off the radar....." -- India have been a little off. Also the heavy roller effect probably.
Smit Shah: Seeing the assistance from the pitch, I think 350 should be a good first innings total.
Manish: Shardul might not be the most gifted cricketer but he makes up for it with his grit. Such a determined player.
Rudra: Expecting Siraj and Bumrah to bring in fireworks with the new ball...
Navdeep: Jamie Smith getting a proper workout here.
Sukhaaa: Archer has reduced his speeds to allow the ball to swing more! Looking a completely different bowler today!
Janmayjay: Archer is bowling venom
Trushil: VK - Dont jinx it please! We lost Gill yesterday for same reason.
Sambhav: The habit of loosing wicket just before the session ends is now changing to.......loosing it after a new session begins!!
VK: Shardul and Washington - Gabba first innings flashback?
Mahesh Memane: Shardul and Washi become different cricketers when they bat together.
Sumit Indulkar: Interestingly, all six wickets taken by Jofra Archer in this series so far have been left-handed batters.
Zain: It will be interesting to see how long Rishabh Pant resists before running down the wicket to hit Liam Dawson for a maximum.
tasin: Already Liam Dawson looks more threatening than Bashir so far! Great pick for England!
Plv Rajshekar: I can sense a longish spell from Ben Stokes here
Umang: Arumugam!!! Noooooo....
Arumugam: The same pair (Gill & Sai) has stitched together multiple brilliant partnerships in the IPL. Hope they do the same here.
SushanS: Seems the tide has turned now, earlier India were losing wickets just before intervals but today it's just after.
Faizal VP: Rahul batted with great discipline in the morning session, but after lunch, he started throwing his bat at every delivery and lost his wicket to a loose shot. If we give England such minor openings, they will hit back hard.
Vishal: "Has the ball been changed? How is it moving so much after almost three hours of play?" -- No it hasn't. But yes, it's still nipping around.
Rahul: Jaiswal is not playing his natural game and only going after the stray deliveries. Good to see that he has worked out a better strategy after the last two games. He is too good a player to get out after playing only 10-20 balls.
Pavan Kumar N R: With whatever happened before the series and what we expected from team India they have fared lot better in terms of the character thay have shown and fearlessness with which they have countered their counterparts. These are signs of greater things to come for India..
Manish: Good start for Team India. Hope that we do not lose wickets at the end of the session..
Akshay Maanay: England were penalized for their over-rate after the Lord's test and we can clearly see an improvement in their over-rate in this Test. 14 overs bowled already in the first hour, much better..
Aravinth: "@cb - Did jaiswal scored any runs against archer today ??" -- Not yet. Has bowled just 5 balls to him so far.
Plv Rajshekar: @Saran M: Agree, and Nair is a good enough slip fielder too, something India badly need after the retirements of Rohit and Kohli.
Saran M: Ohhh MAN unfortunate! Expected Karun Nair to be on the playing 11. He is very assured and can convert it into big score at any time. Deserved long run in this series.
Raaghav: Tired of seeing Shardul being used as a "Dont know who to pick, let's go with him only" option at this point.
sadananda sahoo: India cannot change their mindset. Why Shardul Thakur. If you want a bowler take a bowler or if needs a Batsman take a batsman.
ShehanK: "Both Anil Kumble and Anshul Kamboj making their debut on Same ground and having same initials AK" -- And they both have a 10-wicket haul in first-class cricket.
Pavan: "India has not won a test match here and no team has won a Test here after opting to bowl, ever. One of the stat will perish after this match. Interesting match to watch" -- It's like the draw doesn't exist anymore.
