Kushal Shah: @Jan I don't think Mathews was wasting time. He was ready to face, but the strap of his helmet broke, he just asked for a replacement. I have seen several times bowlers getting their spikes changed and that does not count in the completion time of an innings. There is no penalty for it in the laws.

Amit R: No love lost indeed between two cricketing nations. I wonder if "spirit of cricket" comes into discussion on this. Just like mankading ... Mathews dismissal too was as per agreed rules of the game.

Jan: When fielding team can not complete 50 overs within time then they have to face field restriction penalty. Then why fielding captain should not appeal for a wicket when batsman is wasting time. No one raise concern when batsman getting benefit of rules. It is also not fair.

Amidst a plethora of rule changes specially in the last decade or so, having the presence of mind & using a law of the game smartly to his advantage to dismiss a dangerous batter for nought is commendable.
